Customers in Sydney and Wollongong electricity savings

Sydney and Wollongong residents could save up to $1,400 per year on their electricity

November 3, 2017

Energy customers in NSW could save many hundreds of dollars off their gas and electricity bills, even after most energy retailers recently increased electricity prices by up to 20% or more.

An analysis by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER), found that the value of switching to a different electricity plan or retailer in Sydney can be around $1,400 since the price rises on 1 July 2017.

In regional NSW, the AER analysis found that a four-person household located in Wollongong could save about $1,400 per year if they switched from the most expensive electricity provider to the cheapest. The same size savings could be made by households across the state.

“Energy is a significant cost for many households and small businesses”, said AER Chair Paula Conboy, ” and chances are if it’s been some time since you switched energy providers, or you’re still on a standing offer, then you’re paying more for electricity or gas than you need to.”

“Since the recent price rises, Sydney customers can save up to $1,400 if they switch from the most expensive energy plan currently available to the cheapest.”
